The little Empire town of Wittenlausstein seems to be a popular rest stop for armies biding their time between Warhammer Fantasy battles here in the Land of The Eternal Privates.
Many of these guys are also here because I wanted to put some 5th Edition Warhammer Fantasy armies together. From out of nowhere I suddenly want to play 5th Edition! Maybe it is a reaction to all of the recent excitement over 3rd Edition. I don't know. But bring on the magic cards. Load up the characters, 'cause 5th is coming back to town. Well, at least the little town of Wittenlausstein.
And then, because I am all over the place, I've also been putting together a 3rd Edition Norse army.
Warhammer!

Playing Chainmail
Wonderful Chainmail has been much on my mind these days.
Earlier tonight, Svenbert the Orange gathered his fellow Norsemen and went looking for the Zorf Brothers.
But they ran into the Major's beautiful brand new classic Dark Elves. (I love these figures!)
A beautiful game. And a Dark Elf victory. One of the Zorf Brothers never made it out of the forest. Used a mix of the Man-to-Man tables for missile fire, the Fantasy table for the heroes and the regular Combat Tables for the rank and file. It worked very well. Although, the magic seemed very strong. But I like my magic strong! There will hopefully be much more Chainmail in the very near future.
The glorious heart of Chainmail.

Why are they blocking the mine?
Another Second Edition Warhammer game tonight. Lord Asgard's forces are stopped before the Mines of Gwenyth-Fi by a Gnome Army.
Lord Asgard meets the Gnome Major Hero in a challenge.
The Gnome Hero falls and the whole Gnome line crumbles.
Lord Asgard accepts the Gnome Guardians of the The Mine into his army.
And on he journeys...

Warhammer Second Edition
No music tonight which was great because I was going up the wall with excitement over a solo game of Warhammer Fantasy Battles Second Edition. This was partly inspired by the fantastic new site: Ye Olde Skool Warhammer. Second Edition is where it's at! Hearing this, a bunch of pre-slotta Citadel and Asgard Dwarves journey towards an encounter with some Grenadier Dwarves in the ever-escalating Dwarf Civil War. Unfortunately, they are ambushed in the night by Orcs of the Smiling Face Tribe.
The Dwarfs form up.
Dwarf crossbows in skirmish order.
Major and Minor Hero challenges.
Members of the victorious Smiling Faces smile for a post-battle group shot.

I just wanna see these guys on the site...
Alas, not everyday can bring a game. But everyday can certainly bring dreams of games. The other day I got re-obsessed with the Realms of Chaos books and thoughts of chaos warbands growing and mutating and generally running all over the basement.
Now today, all I want is a game of 2nd edition Warhammer. Just like these Dwarves...

A Chance Encounter
Gulrag knew a shortcut to the Norse Villages. "We's just gotta cross the river by the pretty rocks", he told his band of marauding Goblins. However, it just so happened that a group of Witch Elves had chose that very same spot to sun themselves before they too descended down upon the Norse Villages. (Oh, it's hard to find good real estate when you're a Norseman.) Need it be said, the Witch Elves did not take very kindly to the Goblin intrusion of their sunny afternoon sunning. And so the stage was set for a quick Warhammer skirmish.
In the end, the Witch Elves' Frenzy, hatred and poisoned weapons won the day for them.

Rebellion in the Forest
Had a great fantasy game with Private D. on the weekend. Wood Elf vs. Wood Elf. I really like the idea of civil wars in a fantasy realm for some reason. I am planning a major Dwarf civil war campaign for the Fall. Anyway, in the Wood Elf game, several bands of disgruntled Wardancers were easily swayed by two power hungry Wood Elf nobles to rebel against the lawful eternal rule of Orion and Queen Ariel.
But the Rebellion was squashed!! Now life in the Forests of Loren can return to normal.
